Women & Youths Empowerment: Adamawa First Lady Empowers 2100
Women are key drivers of economic growth and that wealth in the hands of women leads to much more equitable outcomes in terms of the quality of life of families and communities.
She is of the believe that women and men should enjoy equal rights and opportunities on moral/ethical, economic, and political grounds as this will not only engender women’s well-being but it will increase their individual and collective prosperity as well as the prosperity of the cities in which they reside.
The First Lady who has the idea that the future will comprise a majority female component, especially among people older than 60 and even more so among those older than 80 years has pursued policies to enhance gender equality, equity and prosperity of women and youths in Adamawa State,
She knows that women, especially the urban poor, are disadvantaged in terms of equal access to employment, housing, health and education, asset ownership, and ability to exercise their rights, that’s one of the cardinal objectives of her forming the Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation, that has been catering for women, youths, elderly, orphans and people living with disabilities.
As a First Lady, she realized the influence and power being a First Lady had on influencing policy and creating change. She supports the campaign against Gender Based Violence (GBV), campaign against Pneumonia, which saw to her being awarded as Pneumonia Champion 2020, campaign to end Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF), campaign on Domestication of Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act 2015 and lobbied hard for its passage at the Adamawa State House of Assembly, supported the Integrated Child Health and Social Services Award (ICHSSA 40 project).
On the issue of Sexual and Gender Based Violence, she supported the call for enactment of the Law against Sexual Based with an over 5km walk to the State House of Assembly on the need for the speedy passage of the Gender and Equal Opportunity Bill, she also became a strong advocate for a women’s right to free choice in many decisions that affected their lives
She has used her foundation, Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation in creating a situation where women and youth’s potential is more fully realized and households, communities and governments also reap rewards.
Through her foundation, the knowledge, experience and great untapped potential of women and youth is placed front and center of her empowerment plans in ensuring a sustainable future.
She has so far empowered 1200 women and youths in Northern and Central zone of the state in various skills acquisition programmes.
The participants were trained in the production of all items such as soap making, bead making, toiletries, air freshners. After the training, participants went home with a starter pack containing reagents and materials and a token for transportation.
In her quest to empower more women and youths, Hajiya Lami days back flagged off a 5 days Intensive Skills Acquisition Training of 900 women and youths in the southern senatorial zone of the state.
This is apart from the empowerment of market women she constantly embark upon across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
The Intensive Skills Acquisition Training when put into use by the participant will help reduce the problem of unemployment and redundancies amongst men and women
